Simplicity, equality, collectivism, cooperation and frugality are the principal elements of the rich traditions of tribal society. It also forms the essence of Mahatma Gandhi's teachings. The journey of social development which started with constructive work, reached Satyagraha movements, while continuing social reforms. Not working for people but working with people only leads to success. When programs are planned and implemented in accordance with the know-how of the people and their needs, people take pride in proclaiming that they have done the work on their own. I have no hesitation in asserting that, if we desire to get rid of the social and environmental issues arising out of the development model based on consumerism, we must follow Bapu's path of Hind Swaraj.
